As for the University of Washington using ferrets, it is now an
outdated practice as are so many animal experiments are nowadays and it
no longer has to be done. There are new ways of teaching now, so why
bring more ferrets into the already overloaded shelter system? What
happens to the ones that do not get adopted? or possibly injured by
accident during a teaching? Ferret shelters are on overload and many
are busting out at the seams with ferrets or have very long waiting
lists for the ferrets to come in. What about the ferrets being dumped
at the side of a road because someone no longer wants them and they
cannot find a shelter to take them in or cannot wait on a list?. Quite
a few people have left animals in dumpsters, left in apartments after
moving out, dumped in the woods, etc. Where do the University ferrets
originally come from? It is nice to hear that they are socialized and
well taken care of at this University but it does not have to be done
this way anymore.
