Hello all, need some help here... Jasper our 3yr old male some how hooked
his right paw, outside nail on some part of his chage. Before we could get
to him, he freaked out, and started thrashing around. He broke the nail
off all the way up to his paw. We live way out in rural Montana, and the
only vets around here work on cows and horses. The nearest small animal
vet is around 4 hours away. What I am wondering is if people thing we can
nurse him back without a vet. My main concern of course is infection. I
have been cleaning his toe twice a day since it happened (2days ago).
Needless to say, it is rather sensitive to the touch, so he won't let me do
much... We have to give him a good dose of ferrettone to distract him... I
have just been using warm water, but I wonder if I should be doing
something else. He seems to be getting around just fine, and still plays
and wrestles with our other ferret, but as I said, we want to do what ever
is best for him...

Any help would REALLY be appreciated.
