The post was from a noted veterinary pathologist, and you'll notice
that what he said is that kennel cough is a double infection in dogs --
of a specific bacterium and a specific virus simultaneously, and that
ferrets do NOT get the viral component, but some do catch the bacterial
component, so those have a shared bacterial infection, but do not have
the combination infection to which the term "kennel cough" refers
because they do not get the virus.
 
Here is what he said:
