When we got our first ferret he was 100% litter trained. When we got our
second boy, they were 100% in cage and about 80% outside the cage. When
we got our third girl, everyone was still 100% in cage and the boys were
lowering they % outside the cage. By this time we made a bedroom/bathroom
ferret proof. We now have 3 girls and 2 boys. Everyone is 100% in the
cage and always have been. We have only had the one girl about 3 weeks.
I'm proud to say ALL the girls are 100% INSIDE AND OUTSIDE!! Hurray for
girls. Most of the time the boys go next to the litter box. Thank God
they do this mainly in the kitchen so cleanup is easy. Once in awhile they
do go in the frontroom. We have added a box where they go and even keep
newspaper or plastic runner's near the box. Seems like boys like newspaper
better. So most of the accidents have been right next to the litter box.
Think what helped is for months I knew when they had to go and put them in
the litter box right away. Not everyone has time for this. Will try
harder at a better cleanup as one person mentioned.
