     To the FML:

I am afraid that none of my posts have gotten through over the last
two days, but I'll try one more.

I just wanted to take a moment to wish everyone a Merry Christmas,
a Happy Holidays, and hope that the coming new year brings health and
joy to all of my two- and four-legged friends on the FML.

It has been a pleasure to talk with and meet so many of you over
the last year, and, at this time of year, I am grateful for so many
things. I am grateful for Governor Engler for giving such a wonderful
Christmas present to the people of his state; I am grateful for C-pi
and her victory against the odds, and for the other many ferrets out
there who keep on going despite my best medical advice :). I am
grateful for the cards, pictures, and letters that many of you have
sent me this Christmas (and my ferrets thank you for the treats). I
am grateful for the new presence of my good friend Charlie Weiss on
the FML, and encourage any vets to sign on and let us all benefit
from your experience. I am grateful for Chris and Bill, because the
FML is both a tremendous effort, and above all, a tremendous success.
I am grateful that in some small way, I have had the opportunity to
help out some of you this year.

I am grateful for your indulgence over the last few weeks as my
presence on the FML has been scarce. My father yesterday had
successful triple bypass surgery; we have been on pins and needles for
the last ten days as he was in a holding pattern at the hospital. And
for this, I am also grateful.

May everyone on the FML be blessed with the peace and joy of this
     holiday season.
