Is cold weather bad for a ferret?

Just bought a new (8 week old) ferret yesterday.  Seem to be doing fine.
Would it be harmful to take the ferret outside when it's cold?  I live in
Chicago area and it's pretty cold.  I don't want to take it outside really
but in the car and to the pet store to pick out some toys.  Will this cold
weather (even for a brief car-to-store trip) make it ill?
