After 3 a.m. feedings this morning, I gave thanks for OUR volunteers.
We only have three who come on a regular basis, but we have been so
blessed to have them!
 
One couple drives 1 1/2 HOURS, every couple weeks to help.  One man is
going through some terrible times in his own life, & has chosen to turn
it around for good, by helping us weekly.  One single mother is here,
every week after working at the county home, to scrub our floor...These
are good people.  We work, side by side to make the ferrets` lives as
wonderful as possible.  Many of ours are older, or have health issues,
so their habits aren`t too good.  (Probably why they were dumped!)  Our
volunteers help clean up after them, & kiss them & love on them, all the
same.They rejoice when one rallies.They shuttle some to the vet for us.
They call during the week, to ask about this one or that one who isn`t
doing well.  They attend visitations for those who pass...They care,
right along with us, until the end....They weed our cemetery....
 
These good people all have ferrets of their own---have all experienced
the pain of loss--and all want to do some good in the world, in spite of
awful hardships in their own lives...When we thank them, do you know what
they say?  They thank us for allowing them to share in these guys` lives.
They thank us...
 
Sometimes, helping someone else is a great distraction when you are
troubled.  Helping FERRETS is even BETTER!!!
 
I`d like to say something here.  "Helping FERRETS"....... Even if you
dislike the operator, help a shelter out there.  Find one & help it.
You are doing this for the ferrets.  Do you, or do you not, love FERRETS.
 
We once sent a contribution (small one!) to a shelter who had a genuine
need, at the time.  The operator of this shelter had bashed us & told
out & out lies about us, on this very list.  This person did visit our
sanctuary three years later, & saw our place for herself.  There was
never a public apology--or a post on this list saying she had ever even
been here.  Would we help her again?  YOU BET.  It was for the FERRETS---
not her.
 
We will never all see eye to eye on each & every issue---but we DO need
to put our feelings aside--put the politics aside--put the jealousy, &
desire for glory aside--and remember we do all have one common thread.
We do all love these incredible little animals.  We want their happiness,
safety, & well-being.
 
There`s a Bible verse that means a lot to us, here at Zoo`s--Psalm 71:9--
"Do not cast me away when I am old; Do not forsake me when my strength is
gone" We think of this, every day, as we care for our oldsters.
 
Choose a shelter.  Choose a sanctuary.  Visit it, or ask a reliable
source, who has, to determine if it`s legit.
 
THEN
 
Give money, give time, give emotional support Give whatever you can.
This isn`t about helping people---it`s about helping ferrets.
