The following message was emailed to me and I am sending it to the FML with
the author's permission. I am also going to inform him how to join the
FML. Could someone please help John and his baby out????? Please answer
him by email until he gets on the FML. I couldn't help much on my end.
Thanks.

Subject: Help Please!!!!! / Very sick ferret
 Importance: High

Hello ~ i found your email address in the veterinarian reference database.
I have an extremely sick ferret. He has been sick since 04/19/2000 and is
two and a half years old. He seems extremely lethargic when I noticed he
could not jump up a small stairway in the house which he normally flys
up without any hesitation or problems. I took him to the emergency vet
clinic, they put him on an IV and administered antibiotics as his fever was
at 106 degrees. The next day I took him to the "regular veterinary Clinic"
for monitoring. To make a long story short, he hasn't shown any sings of
improvement, can't even hold his head up. They ran blood tests, which
indicate a high white cell count. They ran x-rays which showed a slightly
enlarged spleen which the Vet didn't seem to be overly concerned about.
The ultrasound didn't show any sign of cancer or anything of the such. It
has been over a week now and the Vet is getting extremely concerned as
well....please help.

He is never outside in touch with other animals nor have any sick people
been over to the house. The only thing I can think of is that he did get a
Distemper shot about 1 week before I had noticed his sickness. Does anyone
know if this may have triggered this type of reaction? I am located in
Northern California in the Silicon Valley (Santa Clara).

Does anyone know any ferret specialists that I may be able to take him to
here? I don't think he is going to make it very much longer without expert
care. Please help in any way you can.

Really appreciate your help ~
