Diane,
I have 5 ferrets who have their own room. Here's the way mine is set up.
1. Linoleum floor
2. A cage with door open during the day and the ferrets get put in there
   at night
3. A plexi-glass door blocker
4. litter pans in all the favorite spots
5. They stay in their room most of the time. They get short periods out
in the Apt. I only do this because my SO is allergic to them and cannot
have them free roam all of the time
6. Yes, they get lonely. I go in and visit them often.
7. Toys. A long tube maze on floor. Several hanging baskets a few inches
off floor, hanging balls with bells in side. Towels in hidden corner.
ferret tents, cardboard boxes, crinkly sacks, etc.
7. I keep the food and a litter pan in the cage. Food and water out in the
room seems to be very messy.

Kristen,
Please e-mail me the vet in Northern NJ (just the address and # will be
fine, I guess you can't actually e-mail a person<G>) I'm in Bayonne. Are
you nearby?

Also, TV shows. I was a die-hard Northern Exposure person. One episode it
was a dream that took place in NY. A family was having a party and their
kids ferret was out and about. The ferret stole food and hid it under the
couch. In the end Ed (one of the characters) picks up the ferret and pets
him. The ferret was portrayed rather well if I remember correctly.

Patty and Jim,
I once had a ferret ,Skooter, who as a baby cried all night. He sounded
like a sheep in agony(I've never heard another fuzzie make this noise) I
would put a wind up music box next to his cage and he'd go right off to
la-la land. This worked great, but whenever he'd wake up I'd get woken up
and have to start all over agian. Good News, he stopped crying after a week
or two.
