I was sued by another shelter over a ferret that had gained some bit of
notoriety earlier this year. I did go to the pretrial hearing and was
told there would be a trial/hearing date set. Today, the other party
came with the Sheriff to claim the ferret involved "because I failed to
show for the hearing". I never received notice of the hearing." I am
told I can file for a rehearing if the judge will accept it.

Is there someone out there with legal experience that can help me? I need
to know how to proceed. Such as How do I prove that I didn't receive the
hearing notice if it was sent out through regular mail. Please help me.
I live in the state of Florida as does the other party.

Two ferrets lives are involved. One is adrenal and the other is still in
need of constant encouragement to eat.

What do I do? I don't have money to get an attorney.
