Hi All,
I don't write often and usually only when I have questions. My adult male
ferret, Monzie is 4.5 yrs old. We noticed over the summer that he had black
stuff in his ears and felt they were ear mites. We cleaned them and
administered ear mite medication and thought we had the problem licked. We
regularly change and wash their bedding (approx. 3 times per week). We
have two cats both of which don't and haven't had ear mites and our adult
female who also hasn't really had the problem. For the last 2 or 3 weeks
I've noticed his ears are dirty again and tried to do some cleaning (much to
his chagrin!). But his behaviors are getting a little worrisome. Sometimes
if he is standing he will just fall to the floor onto his side. Also when
he walks sometimes he looses his balance or looses control of his back end
and falls. I've read in the ferret FAQ's that if a ferret has ear mites it
is usually not bothersome to them. My question: has anyone everhad a ferret
with ear mites and this dizzyness? One day he will be fine and the next he
just can't get up. My SO didn't call the vet today after last nights
episode because he said Monzie was back to himself. Should we be more
concerned? Thanks for any help.
