As someone who had a ferret lose an eye to a large furniture staple
inside a sofa, I must say I don't find ferret-proofing a sofa something
to laugh about.  I know firsthand how dangerous sofas can be.
 
When that happened to my Eddy I got rid of both the sofa and loveseat.
I now have a really cool Ikea futon that is completely ferret proof.
