I've heard that they are a mutation, perpetuated by a breeder.  Would a
mutation that changed fur length also be likely to change them in the other
ways they are different from normal ferrets or is it perhaps more likely
that one of the long haired polecats were involved?
 
During May, I've added more ferret photos to my web site from meetings in
the Stockholm area in Sweden.
