After reading so much about clumping litter and litter box problems, I
decided to tell my litter story.

I have owned ferrets and roomed with ferret owners for about four years now.
Off and on, I have experianced living with eight ferrets. I tried and tried
to perfect the litter box training. I've delt with all the litter problems
that drive ferret owners crazy.

The best alternative I have found is no litter at all. I can see how this
may be a problem for people with multiple varmits, but it works quiet well
for about four or five in a household.

Instead of a litter box, I've taped heavy plastic in the appropriate
corners. Instead of litter, I use newspaper. It makes no sense to me to
force ferrets to use a product that was developed for and animal who buries
thier waste. Not to mention all the medical problems that litter can cause.

Newspaper is alot easier to clean, although you have to clean it more often.
Actually now that I think about it, I clean the paper less often than
litter. All the litters I ever bought ended up smelling very nasty so I
cleaned them at least once a day. And who really enjoys digging through all
that poop?

Anyway, those are my thoughts. I hope I have helped someone. The paper
alternative may not be for everyone. Two of my ferret owning friends still
use litter. I suppose its whatever flots your boat. I would like some
CONSTRUCTIVE feedback on this issue. Feel free to e-mail me personally.
