Hey David,
 
I live in a pretty dry climate too, and have found that "over bathing" was
the biggest contributor to dry skin and the "Itchies".  I dropped to bathing
Katie once a month(or less if I forget) and she barely scratches at all now.
 
I have also noticed that she dosn't "smell" as much when she's bathed LESS!
( It may just be my nose, I don't know.) Maybe over washing stimulates the
scent glands more..?  Anyone else notice stuff like this?
