Some of you may remember I wrote about a ferret who came to me with a huge
sore on his side. March of this year he had the site removed by a cancer
specialist, as it tested positive for the cutaneous form of lymphosarcoma.
And then in May, Spaz had some additional biopsies taken as a new sore
developed on his opposite hind leg. This site was removed as well, and the
biopsies were sent away.

The first report came back with not so good news... it appeared that the
new site was lymphosarcoma as well and the edges of the surgery were not
clean. Then for some reason, the lab did a secondary test, and some
additional stainings on the biopsy samples, and this time, the sites tested
clear! The hind leg area turned out to be a mast cell tumor, which I am
told is very common in ferrets and much easier to deal with.

Spaz's days for surgery have been suspended and I couldn't be happier.
This may end up being a solution for other ferrets who get this form of
lymphosarcoma. I really hope it is...

It has taken almost three months, but Spaz is finally growing back some of
the hair that was shaved off for surgery. He is such a strong and healthy
boy... and as my hubby likes to call him.... very meaty too!

He has not stopped trying to be the boss of everyone and continues to let
his presence be known. We are so happy for Spaz that he will be around for
a while longer. For an older ferret, he has enough energy to give everyone
a piece and still have some left over.

This morning, I was in a deep sleep, dreaming of relaxing on the ocean in
a mid-sized ship, when all of a sudden the dream changed... I was getting
dragged across the ships deck, and my face was getting raw. Water was
splashing up all around, and the sea was getting turbulent... I awoke to
find Spaz licking my face and my eye lids with such vigor, that I am
surprised I still have skin there.

Thank goodness for the miracles disguised in the form of a ferret!
