Brad--
When you listed Florida addresses of clubs, shelters, etc. a
few days ago I saw a couple of boo-boos. The ferret contact listing
for Lynn & Jesse is no longer correct. They have moved to Colorado.
Another club for your list is:

Central Florida Ferret Friends, located in East Orlando Florida
Contact President Debbie Coburn at 407-380-8712
or Amy Eller, Vice-President, at 407-384-9572

To the companion of Punk the Ferret:
My furries sleep with me and/or my husband all the time, both
by invitation and their own decision. We've had none of the problem
you were concerned about, but Scott occasionally gets his toes nipped.
My best guess as to why this happens to him and not me is that he's
very ticklish, so when a ferret sniffs his foot he jerks it away and
the ferret takes this as either an invitation to play or an attack.
I hardly react at all, so there are no wiggling feet and toes to
attract nipping.

To Addie's companion who asked about adoption fees:
I think $50 is a very reasonable fee. The shelter I adopted my
second ferret from charges $100 as a base fee. I do know of one
shelter in New Hampshire that charges $40. Consider that adoption
fees are the greatest (or only) means of generating support for the
shelter. Also, I don't know what a pet store ferret where you are
costs, but they go for $130-150 here, so $50 would be a bargain!
Try watching the classifieds in your paper too. There are many people
who get ferrets without knowing anything about them and later wish
nothing more than to get rid of them, hoping to get a bit of money
out of the deal too. This is how we got our third baby, and there
have been more than half a dozen ads in just one paper here in the
last three weeks. Good luck with Addie and the vet and you musings
on additional ferrets!
