EMERGENCY:  POTENTIAL FERRET BAN OF FERRETS IN SOUTH CAROLINA IN  PROCESS.
H.B. 4325 will permit ownership of ferrets, but will ban sale, breeding,
transference of ownership, transport, and rabies vaccination of ferrets in the
State of SC.  Bill passed subcommittee and is now pending vote of full House
Committee.  What is needed is Scientific, VET MEDICAL, and Official statements
supporting usefulnes of rabies vaccine in ferrets; not needed:  personal
opinions from  owners.
 
    IF YOU LIVE IN SC or neighboring states, please E-mail or telephone
your name, address and phone # immediately.  We will pass these on to Sharon
McKenzie.   She is having extreme difficulty generating local support from
ferret owners in her state to counter this bill.
 
PLEASE NOTE:  AFA, FURO, and other organizations will be supplying
appropriate information to the Committee.  However, a letter from
veterinarians would be useful.  Currently the state has a suit  pending
against a vet who vaccinated a ferret against rabies.  They have stripped him
of his license.  AFA will obtain the SC vet med assocation's address/phone.
