Hmm. The only thing I really know about colloidal silver is the chemistry
stuff. But I do want to say something here.... As to Ela stating that it
was widely used and available in the early part of the century, so were
leeches, and they don't use those much anymore either. So this is in no
way a good endorsement. For me, the big concern with colloidal minerals of
any type, including silver, is that because it is not a "drug" it is not
regulated. Frankly, that tips me off right there. The FDA won't approve
it, so it is sold as a dietery supplement. Personally, that scares me.
Here is the real issue. Is colloidal silver a neccessary part of a
ferret's healthy diet? No. Is it a neccessary part of a human's healthy
diet? No. Do they want you to think it is? Yes. Why? Because they SELL
it. Is this a good reason to use it? No. As the Killians have pointed
out, and cited source, even, the FDA does not endorse it. And the American
Verterinary Medical Association agrees! "As for animal safety, use of
these products to treat a serious condition could delay timely, appropriate
treatment." (http://www.avma.org/onlnews/javma/apr97/s040197d.html) Who
does endorse it? The companies who produce it. From the CDC and the
American Medical Association, to the FDA and the US Consumer Product Safety
Commission I could find no medical endorsements of colloidal silver. I
don't know about you, but this doesn't make me want to run out and get a
bunch of this stuff and start pumping into either me or my little furry
companions. If I could be shown something substantial citing the benefits
of colloidal silver, I might be pulled over to the other side, but with so
little evidence that it is worth the risks it poses, why bother?
