I would swear that my first ferret was the smartest ferret I have had
in over 20 years. But it is possible I've gotten smarter and understand
their creative little minds.

Missie used to always send me to bed at 10pm each night. She would
harass me by climbing on me, gentle nipping, grabbing my hand and
pulling, until I crawled into bed. She would then snuggle next to me
until I went to sleep. If I tried to sneak out of bed, a very angry
ferret would come stomping down the hallway and hunt me down.

What was even funnier about the situation is that my boyfriend tells me
that after Missie and I went to bed, and Missie was sure I was asleep,
she would come back out the livingroom and spend a couple hours with
my boyfriend. He was allowed to stay up, I was not.

Of course I was the one who, according to Missie, had to get up at
the crack of dawn to play. We had a complete reversal of the bedtime
routine. I was again harassed until I got up, and then had to play
chase around the house. Should I stop to try to sneak into bed, a very
insistent Missie was there to make sure I got back up. Try to envision
a non morning person, crack of dawn, eyes barely open, attempting to
run up and down the hallway with a very active ferret.

The intelligence and creativity of ferrets still astounds me today. I
know now to always expect the unexpected, and ferret proofing is never
done.

What has your smart ferret done today?

Masked CA ferret owner.
