Hello everyone,
Just a little note to let everyone know that Ferrethead went to the vet.
After his little journey into the outdoors last tuesday and finding the
fleas and ticks I figured he needed to be checked over thoroughly. It turns
out that he has ear mites as well. And I don't know if this will help
whomever was having a problem with them but our vet gave Ferrethead some
Tresaderm to drop into his ears about three times a week for 6 weeks. He
also said to get some cat or kitten flea and tick spray for on the tail as
this will kill the mites on the tail. He said a lot of people don't realize
that mites are usually not just in the ears. Ferrets sleep curled up with
their tail around close to their ears therefor most likely there are mites
on the tail as well. So to keep them from attacking your ferret treat the
tail as well. He told me to use a flea spray but I got the powder instead
and put it all over his body.

No signs of anymore ticks thank goodness. Those things really scare me! He
gave ferrethead a shot of Methylprednisolone for itching. We have used this
shot before and it works very well. We have had no reactions to it. And he
gave us some Adams Flea and Tick Shampoo. Hsven't seen an itch or a flea
since.

He also recomended spraying the house with flea spray, but I have a 3 year
old that has some special needs and I just don't think breathing that in
would be the greatest. So again I used the flea and tick powder. I put it
behimd all my furniture as that is where Ferrethead likes to spend his time
while he is out and I put moth crystals in containers with holes in the top
behind the furniture as well. My vet also said to put moth balls or
crystals in the vacume cleaner bag as this will take care of the flea
problem in there.

So overall ferrethead will be fine and I now have a big hole in my pocket
because of the vet bill! But Ferrethead is like my 2nd child and I would
never let anything happen to my human child so why should I with him.

Something tha treally made me mad at the vets yesterday was his secretary.
She insisted that Ferrethead was a rodent...A rodent mind you. I don't know
about any of you but my ferret doesn't look like a rat! She was new, so I
guess you just over look people who act like that.

Hope to hear from you all soon.
