Gail, I don't think you're going to keep Pooka from throwing books off
the shelf.  My little fur-covered bulldozers could probably attest to
that fact, since I've done everything humanly possible to stop them!
("human" ... maybe that's the problem ... lol)
 
Seriously, though - try a covered litterbox.  I had to put one in the
corner next to the hutch where I keep my spools of thread and yarn.  (no
needles - they're secure somewhere else) Gus, Minnie, and Harley were
forever knocking yarn and thread into the litterbox.  When I moved the
box, they just pooped on the floor, so I put a covered box there.  It
worked for them, and I don't have poopy yarn anymore.
 
It might work for you and Pooka!
