This is what I have found works.  They are like very large canvas pillow
cases and are very snug so very difficult to dig at with any luck: Spring
1996 Domestications Catalog 1-800-746-2555.  It's called Mattress/Boxspring
Protectors - Envelopes your mattress or boxspring snugly to protect top and
bottom.  Wide zippered opening.  Machine wash/dry, poly/cotton.

Another option is to cut plywood to size and shoot in some small brads to
keep it in place. This option worked for us in the guest bedroom.
