Blackout Blinds and Curtains

Dear FMLers,
 
I was wondering how much black out time is good for ferrets.  Their room
has a Velux blind which is drawn most of the time and I also bought some
blackout curtains which cover the cage.
 
My question is, are they having too much blackout time as they aren't
able to 'see' dawn and dusk now.
