We still don't know what is wrong with Henry. Here's an update: He's been
EXTREMELY anxious for about two months now, he runs from every little noise,
ice cubes clinking in a glass can send him under the radiator for hours. He
is stiff as a board in fright when you pick him up. It takes close to an
hour to get him to calm down after you pick him up. If you are able to hold
for that long he finally calms. At this point, he acts completely normal,
plays vigorously and is a normal goofball. From the vet, he has a temp of
103.9, his liver enzymes are all elevated (but not unbelieveably so, just
elevated), the radiologist who looked at the x-rays said non-specific
inflammation of the intestines, excessive fluid in around intestine , his
weight has dropped from 2.8 lbs to 2.25 lbs in 2 months, blood count is gd,
lymph nodes and spleen feel good, eyesight and hearing appear normal, heart
and lungs appear normal, fur looks good, poop looks good, no foreign bodies
visible on radiograph, ear mites all gone. He has been on amoxy and zantac
for one week now with no improvement. I have begun feeding him mixture of
A/D and turkey and beef baby food in a syringe because he is not eating his
dry food much. The doctor suggested an exploratory and I want him to be
strong if it comes to this. So basically we are guessing: possible ulcer,
possible viral/bacterial infection in intestinal tract, partial obstruction,
a tumor we can't find, a behavioral problem... Which sounds most likely??
He was once a big lazy dude who would fall asleep in your lap and was afraid
of nothing not even the vacuum. He is 8 months old. Now he is a nervous
wreck most of the time. Any suggestions? Does exploratory surgery seem
like the right way to go? Or wait it out? I think he has an appetite but
is just tooafraid to go to the food bowl and eat he devours food when I
syringe feed him... All other beasts in the house are fine. We can't think
of anything that could have happened to scare the pants off of henry
either... Help, Charlene
