I have trained my ferrets to come running to the sound of a clicker,
though I guess that's not really that impressive compared to that ferret
who was on Animal Planet :-) I started out by making clicking noises with
my tongue while giving treats, then making the clicking noises before
giving the treat, then switching to the clicker during treat, then
clicker before treat. I started out with the tongue-clicking first
because it is a little quieter--I didn't want to scare the ferrets with
the loud clicker until they were used to the concept. And it worked in
a very short time. Seti and our departed Pan come/used to come running
out of a sound sleep to the sound of the clicker. New ferret Ronan is
already picking up on the concept. I haven't tried training them to do
any other things with the clicker; after having had a deaf ferret for
years, I was thrilled enough with the simple ability to call them :-)

"Is that my business? Well, what is my business? Do I know? Did I ever
know? Let s not go into that. You re not human tonight, Marlowe. Maybe
I never was or ever will be... Maybe we all get like this in the cold
half-lit world where always the wrong thing happens and never the right."
