You have to consider the personality of the particular ferret.  Bonnie
nips, Clyde is extremely shy around strangers.  Booger loves everybody he
sees, so whenever we are going out and aren't going into anyplace where
he isn't welcome, he gets to come along.  He loves to ride in the car.
We don't use a carrier, just carry him in our arms.
