Well, I would try to get a radio & place it by thier cage.  Put it on a talk
station so they can get used to people's voices.  Add music, too, so they
can get over noise.
 
Good luck.  Pretty sad that somebody just dumped them over a physical thing.
I have kits that a jill ate tails & feet.  Can't deprive them of life
because of that!  Sometimes they handicap ferrets (or people!) have the
best personalities!
