In response to the posting concerning the two shows (FURO and LIFE)
mentioned in the posting of a show-goer in reference to sanitation...

NJ LOS is a state division of LOS National. Before any other group, LOS
National began stringent sanitation methods for shows 3 years ago after the
first noted outbreaks of ECE (then referred to as the "Green Slime"). We
placed cleanable mats on the table at each judging spot for sanitizing
before and after each ferret. The "baby wipes" are treated with Nolvasaan
or Odo-Ban before use. The judges are expected to wipe their hands and
forearms before and after examining each ferret. And, before the ferrets
are permitted to enter into the show hall, records of innoculation against
canine distemper are checked. Litter pans are looked at and ferrets are
looked over for possible signs of infestation (fleas and mites) or sickness.

At the LOS National shows we place canisters of antiseptic treated wipes
throughout the show hall also for folks to use when handling ferrets. Our
show hall smells of Odo-Ban (antiseptic / anitfungal / antiviraside) so
folks can safely handle ferrets. We strive to keep the safety of ferrets
while gathering to enjoy other ferret owners company.

Of course people with ill ferrets should leave them home!

You should be warned that whether you attend shows, stay home, or visit pet
stores, there is always the possibility of being exposed to disease; whether
human or animal.

Being aware of your ferrets normal activities and habits and able to note a
drastic difference will help to alert you to an ill ferret quickly.
