Hi, I totally missed the euthanasia discussion this past week because I was
away for the holidays. But now I am catching up and just had to say
something. I have seen a number of animals euthanised, as I have worked in
a veterinary hospital facility. NEVER, NEVER have I ever seen an animal
euthanized solely by injection into the heart. They have always had the
benefit of either a sedative or anesthesia. Even the one lab animal I saw
euthanized (even though there are other ways that are more commonly used
with lab animals). Vets are taught that a faster death is better for
everyone (the owners and the patient) so that the animal won't suffer.
Injection into the heart is the fastest way. It isn't that all vets are
cold hearted businessmen and women. It is real important to know these
methods and discuss them with you vet so you know what is right for you and
your pet.
