To Brad:
Glad you were able to adopt Tasha. I can't speak about possible brain damage or
a tumor, though I imagine that could add unknown complications to the
psychological effects of having been abused. I adopted Norman the former biter
(well, mostly former) knowing he had been abused and had bitten a couple of
shelter people and their vet.

At first I wondered if I should use gloves to pick him up. But he really didn't
bite me as much as I thought he would, thank goodness. He has always had the
run of a room or the house, so he gets plenty of exercise. When I first got
him, I gave him some space, but also picked him up a lot and did not let him
get down when he bit (an FML suggestion). Mostly I told him "no!" or blew on
his face, even tried hissing (another FML suggestion), but never hitting.
Here's a handy tip also: if Tasha clamps on to you, gently put your finger over
her nostrils and she must let go to breathe.

Norm caught on fairly quickly that I wouldn't hurt him, and also that I did not
want to be bitten. He is still somewhat skittish, and I feel sad knowing that
someone hurt him. But he has turned out to be a lot of fun, and has a wonderful
time with his partner in crime, Ralph. I still do not put my face right up to
his face (like I do with the other 2), though I kiss him on top of his head a
lot. In fact, if he bites now, I pick him up and kiss him all over ("yecch,
mom, cut it out!") though I wouldn't have done that when I first got him!! Good
luck with Tasha.

Silly snow stuff:
I brought in a flowerpot full of snow and put pot, Norm & Ralph in the bathtub.
Ralph enjoyed digging in it, especially when he discovered leaves at the bottom
of the pot, but soon became more interested in the bathtub drain and the dog-
bath shower hose attachment, which he tried to carry off. Norm enjoyed drinking
the snow as it melted. What they *really* like is trying to destroy the felt
lining in my snow boots! In fact, I am always seeking new and better hiding
places for my footwear.
