Just an FYI:

Having participated in pets.alt in the 1980s, on the list which
preceded the FML and on the FML from the start...

We few online ferret folks then went from the pets list to pets.alt and
then formed the first pets.alt.ferrets but had some harassers, so the
original pets.alt.ferrets was dissolved when Chris Lewis began the FML
around 21 years ago (or is it around 22 now?). There have been at least
2 later renditions of pets.alt.ferrets which started afterward, but the
original one was dissolved when the FML began and it was a decent while
before the second one appeared.

The FML is the longest lived continual ferrets internet list in
existence and for most of its life Bill Gruber has been the moderator.
Bill even helped people before that when he was just one of us list
members. He provided the first anonymity function which was for people
who lived in FFZs because there were a number more of those back then.

(And if you think this is strange, Steve, my husband and a friend were
the ones who first got two general internet predecessors talking with
each other. I think it was ARPAnet and another at a major lab, but
forget the details, and another friend joined some others up. The
original linked places were a few universities, national labs, a few
rare other labs (like the old Bell Labs) and the military (hence ARPA),
so Steve precedes what is usually talked of as the actual Internet for
being on-line, and back then a person could read everything on it in a
matter of minutes.)
