I don't remember where I read it, but I'm pretty sure rodents aren't
considered to be at risk for rabies transmission.  I don't think this is
because they can't get it, my own suspicion is simply that most rodents are
of such a size that if a rabid animal (like a cat) bit them, they'd
frequently be dead from the bite before developing the disease.  I doubt
the child is at risk.
 
Someone correct me if I'm wrong about this.  As I said I can't locate the
source, so I'm not sure where I got this from.
