Pat Wright's Trial Set For January 23rd

The People of the State of California vs Patrick Wright is set for
Thursday, January 23rd. Hopes for a last minute dropping of charges were
dashed, and Wright's attorney said "Boy - they really want to pound
you."

The charges are officially because Pat refused San Diego Animal
Control's request to help locate a ferret (previously taken by a Ferrets
Anonymous' rescuer) after the ferret alledgedly bit 12 year old Kyle
Winter. Wright would not turn in the ferret until he had, in writing, a
guarantee that the ferret would not be destroyed. Wright had originally
asked that the ferret be returned to the owner after a quarantine, but
that condition was dropped after the person who found the ferret was
threatened with a lawsuit.

Nine days after the "bite," the ferret was turned in, and Pat had a
letter guaranteeing the safety of the ferret. Upon turning the ferret in
for quarantine, Pat was served with three misdemeanors; failure to
isolate, failure to qurantine, and concealing information about a biting
animal, subject to rabies, in order to avoid quarantine.

Later a charge of child endangerment was added.

The trial is set for the San Diego county court house, 220 W Broadway in
downtown San Diego. We are supposed to begin at 8:15, but we may not get
a court room and have to start the next day.

Interestingly, the reporter covering the trial for the San Diego
Union-Tribune said he had 5 years in law enforcement, narcotics
division, and he thought the charges were pretty specious. Anyone
wishing more information is welcome to contact Pat Wright at
[log in to unmask] or call (619) 584-8427.
