Buddy

On Friday morning BUDDY, the aloof ferret passed away. And I guess We're
a bit stunned today. I've tried to think of all the ways to say this,
Every pet owner goes through it. We suffer through it with every living
thing in our life. Living things pass on, they die, it's never easy, and
in fact it's always ugly. There are no instructions on how to accept it.

At one time was a "discard" one of three. He was the cage mate of LOKI,
who passed not long ago. He was Dweezle's best buddy. He was the only
fur kid Dweesle would share his hammock with. We have no idea how old
he was or where he came from.

When the SO and I merged households, and fur kid families, BUDDY adapted
to the "new" kids fast, he didn't care he tolerated everyone. There was
a young lady that caught his eye. She was a sweet little girl, a DEW
She was going or was blind. Her name was POE, she was a heart stealer.
She appointed BUDDY as her guide ferret; she'd walk right beside him,
actually up against him as they wandered about. We thought his was a bit
funny because she had always done well on her own. If one of the others
got a bit rough with her, he'd be right there bulldozing the rough one
aside. But Dweezle was his best buddy, they always and I mean always
slept together. BUDDY was just a boy, not the fastest, or the biggest,
not the best jumper, or the most handsome. He wasn't a kisser, except
for cleaning POE's ears. He never chased his tail, or grabbed his back
toes as he rolled around. He did like his tube, and his ferrettone. He
didn't "speak" he never purred. He never liked a bath, but you had to
put him out of the shower. He loved to swim, we used to have a large
fresh water fish tank, and he knew how to get in. He never bothered a
fish, but he'd paddle and paddle. He never liked head scritches. He
was never a lap ferret. He never dug; he never destroyed a thing. He
was just a good little man and we miss him.

He did learn that if he rolled over he got his tummy rubbed, I guess that
was his passion.

When he passed we let the others say good bye, their reactions were
amazing, from many giving ear kisses, to some noseing him, to some
sniffing then laying flat, facing him for a few minutes. I think we
humans could learn more from our furkids if we would just watch.

Already I miss his nose bumps and tummy tickles. *Sigh* We'll miss you
BUDDY the aloof ferret. Your time spent here teaching us will not be in
vain

Be well
