I have seen more than one post about a blaze meaning deafness.  I have
adopted a ferret; not sure of his coloring but sounds very similar to
Gillian's; he has a blaze.  I'm just considering that he could be deaf and
would appreciate any tips on how I might know for sure.

I couldn't agree more!  I have a 10 month old male PV ferret; he is indeed
solid - 3 lbs - with a great personality.  He's great!
