Hello, I am posting this question to ask some of you who has delt with
adrenal surgery and or lupron. I have a male ferret who has adrenal
disease, it all started when I noticed that my snowball was losing
weight, I brought him to my vet and she examed him and found a mass that
was between his stomach and spleen about the size of a pea, my vet said
it would be a good idea to remove it, so I agreed and they did remove it,
when they were doing the surgery she ( my vet ) said the adrenal glands
looked good from what she could see and his pancrease looked good too.

So 2 weeks after the surgery he still was losing weight and he just
looked so skinny he was 1lb 12 oz, she gave me some pred to put him on
for inflamatory because the mass that they removed was a active lymb
node, ( it was not cancer ) and she ( my vet ) thought the pred would put
some weight on him, well a couple months went by and he still was very
thin, so I brought him back to my vet because some of his fur was thin
like on his knees and feet and alittle between the shoulder blades. I
decided to have them draw blood for a adrenal panel and when it came back
she told me that he did in fact have adreal disease, I didn't know what
to do, it was only 2 months that he had surgery and I didn't want to put
him through that again, I know that adrenal disease is slow moving, but I
didn't want to wait to treat him for that so I bought 3 months of lupron,
he did have his 1st shot nov 3rd and everything went very well, but
before I even bought the lupron I noticed that he was gaining weight and
his winter coat came in gorgous he is now 2lb 3 oz and has a gorgous
coat and this happened before the lupron shot was given so I was kind of
puzzled, but right now he is just down right handsome and still the same
crazy guy he has always been, and through all of this he never did act
sick at all it was just getting him to gain weight and now he has done
that and it makes me so happy.

So my question is to you is if my vet didn't see any tumors which im sure
there is one or more but very small would keeping him on lupron help him
and keep everything under control or will it not help the tumor from
growing bigger and I'll end up getting the surgery anyways? The cost
of lupron doesn't matter to me all I want is for him to remain in good
health even with the disease, us humans can live with a disease so why
couldn't a ferret. If I can keep him on lupron and everything stays
under control I will be so happy, I love him sooooooo much and I don't
want to lose him, feel free to e-mail me with your comments and
suggestions at [log in to unmask]

Thank you very much,
Theresa
