Hi Joe.. go to your pet store or better yet book store. There are
several good books on caring for ferrets. Try the dummy books..Ferrets
for Dummies. It is easy to read and apply.

How big a cage you need largly depends on now many ferrets you have..
but a ginea pig cage is unsuitable for even one ferret. You need a multi
level cage with a large water bottle, weighted food bowl or feeder and a
sleeping hammock. If you take your pet ownership seriously as you say be
aware that ferret cages can be costly.. which is probably why they were
found in a guinea pig cage.

They need a special diet high in fat, taurine and protein. Pet stores
should have ferret food such as 8 in 1 ferret food, marshalls etc. This
is always debatable but kitten food ( high in protein, fat and taurine)
will do in a pinch. They must always have fresh food and water
available.

Ferrets are active and intelligent and must have stimulation and several
hours of excercise out of the cage a day. They can get into anything..
pipe holes in the wall, ventilation openings, under doors, into the
toilet, into cabinets etc. and must be watched very carefully. The
house must be ferret proofed.

Ferrets like to sleep and cuddle in warm secure places like a sleeping
hammock, you need bedding ( try an old clean t-shirt in the cage till you
can buy a hammock ).

Ferrets are not "cage" animals like hamsters despite the cage. they need
attention and time. they are social and need interaction and a loving
secure environment.. so please consider this before making a commitment.
Obviously the person who abandoned them thought only of themselves...and
deserves Texas style justice as far as i am concerned...The Humane
Society is right they probably will be killed if left there. This site
can be your bible for the time being..
