Question on rice boxes

We've been reading alot of letters on rice boxes,some pro some con.  We
got about 10 lb of dried elbow macaroni and put it in a big plastic kitty
litter type box.Is macaroni a good idea or not?At least the ferrets don't
seem to be eating any of it.They do however go absoutely crazy digging in
it.
