I have come to the heartbreaking decision that I must put my oldest
girl, Baby Girl, to sleep tomorrow (Thursday). She has several
illnesses that have just become too much for her to bear any more,
although she continues to try and try. She is about 7 years old, and
has been with me since being adopted from FACT in February of 2007. She
is one of the original 3 that my ex-wife and I adopted at the same time
that cold winter day, which opened up this whole new 'ferret chapter'
in my life. She has seen a dozen other ferrets come to my home and pass
on during that time, and has always befriended every one of them. She's
had a wonderful life with me, yet it still remains so hard to let her
go. She was always the bouncy little girl for whom no ferret barrier
was too great to overcome, yet now she struggles to drag herself across
the carpet in the ferret room to do her business. It is out of my love
for her that I must, thru the tears, help her to pass on peacefully,
before the pain invades her every waking moment. I owe her that much,
and a lot more. She is comfortable now, and will spend one more night
with her bonded sister Luna, then will be with me tomorrow when she
drifts off to sleep for the last time. I ask that my ferret friends
please hold Baby Girl in your thoughts, that she may have a peaceful
night here with Luna, me, and her other brothers and sisters, before
she travels to the bridge tomorrow.
