Nemo, the little flea anemic ferret, is doing very well. He now plays
with some of the other ferrets and is starting to let me watch. He
likes to eat the dog food as well as his recipe and several of the ferret
kibbles. This morning I found him curled up on the floor beside the dog
food bowl. Not sure what that was all about. I was startled to see him
laying there so I reached down to check him and was greeted by a very
disgruntled Nemo. It's been hot here in Kansas, over 100 and the AC has
been running almost constantly. I'm guessing he found a nice cool spot
on the kitchen linoleum and curled up and took a snooze.

Isis came to us a few days ago. I could feel something in her chest and
her sinuses sounded stuffy. I started her on antibiotics and we had our
vet appt yesterday. Kennel cough. sigh. Also her rib cage was broken
long ago and instead of pushing out, it pushes in. She has very little
area in her chest for her organs but apparantly enough that she is able
to live. Larry said her lungs are clear, which is a very good thing with
so little area in her chest. He said he was surprised that her heart
wasn't damaged from the crushed ribs. Best guess is that she was stepped
on as a kit and her ribs were crushed. Larry asked if she'd been
coughing and I said only once or twice and he was surprised. So now I'm
on cough patrol, jumping up and running to see who is coughing when I
hear it, so I can start them on antibiotics before we have a complete
outbreak in the group. sigh. Unfortunately it's only one cough and
when I reach that area I find a pile of ferrets all snuggled together
and can't tell who the cough came from. Next cough I hear the snuggled
group will all get started on antibiotics. hmph.

hugs. tle
