I read about one person that they added a pool and the ferrets would get in
to keep cool when the temp was getting to hot.  I don't know of the depth of
the water weather just an inch or what.  You definitely need a top cause my
Neuman is an escape artist and easily scales over 2 foot high cage wire :-)
I would like them to get more sunlight so that is part of my reasoning for
me considering an outside cage also I'm working on the pieces right now I
use 'Interlocking Grid Storage Storage System' that I can get a Sam's Club
cause I go for looks and the metal is white enamel electrocoated thick wire
(?20 gauge?) that makes 1 1/2 inch squares.  As for digging I'm thinking
about an indoor tub filled with sterilized sand not beach sand.  That might
be an option instead of burying wire below ground.
