Linda Decelles <[log in to unmask]> had a recipe for cardiomyopathy which
included 6 capsules Hawthorne Berry.
 
If you are going to use Hawthorne, please be sure to tell your vet.  It
might cause an interaction concern with heart meds such as digitalis or
enacard.  Hawthorne is used for heart problems but the dosage of other
drugs might have to be adjusted.  I've never been brave enough to try
hawthrone and just stick with conventional meds.
 
I've had great luck with my cardiomyopathy kids.  Dancing Bear is now 8.5
years old and has been on heart meds for 2 years 4 months.  Two others have
been on heart meds for over 2 years.  Dancing Bear is living proof that
Lasix is a *huge* benefit for fluid retention.  Lasix is a dose-to-effect
drug and can be used as needed to reduce fluid retention.  Enacard is used
every other day and digitalis is given twice daily.
 
I supplement my kids diet with a/d soup.  This recipe lasts me 2 days.
Use 4 cans a/d, 2 jars baby food bananas (supplies potassium to reduce
the effect of lasix), 1/3 cup brewers yeast, 1 tsp Prozyme, 1 tsp Vetline
Feline vitamins, and 1 tsp Missing link.  Mix with water (I rinse the cans
and jars) to make it soupy.  Feed 1 or more times daily.  I also supplement
their meds with 5 mg of Co-Q10 daily and .5cc Pet-tinic.
