The chances are that your vet has seen first hand how hard it is for
those who lose a number of ferrets close together, an the warning to ge
some control over the ferret math is a good one, esp. since you are
already feeling the pinch. We have found around here the life time
vet care for a ferret adds up to about and average of $3,000 to $5,000
each -- most in the last year of life -- (and we have had ones who ran
more) so you need to start saving. With all being within a few months
of each other the chances are that over about a 2 year span or shorter
you will have anywhere from over $10,000 to over $20,000 in ferret
medical expenses. If you think that is the hardest part of it, think
again because the emotional pain of losing a number of ferrets over a
short space of time is enormous. It rips your gut out. Luckily, these
are still early-days so you can begin to prepare yourself emotionally,
and also begin saving for the later medical expenses so that you don't
become one of those people who can't use the proven medical approaches
due to not being able to afford them.

Hard stuff to say, and I know it is hard to read, but take it from those
who have been there -- you are far better forewarned so that you can
prepare.

Loving ferrets means setting limits appropriately. Otherwise, the
statements of love don't wind up really matching the actions taken. In
worst case scenarios animal hoarding can begin. We've all read of too
many rescues from that type of situation.
