Gagging on water

Barb recently mentioned that her ferret, Pepper, gagged on water when he
was returned home.  I've noticed our two young MF ferrets doing that
lately.  They always have fresh water accessible, but they drink and drink
until they choke on it, then drink some more.  Is this normal?  Something
I should be concerned about?
