There are several inexpensive vet books that you can give to your vet who
knows nothing about ferrets.

The first (and I hope it is still available) is a booklet called "The
Domestic Ferret Veterinary Handbook" which has been published by FAIR (the
Ferret Adoption, Information, and Rescue Society/Shelter) at P.O. Box 952,
Westmont, Illinois, 60559. The 1995 edition (4th) is a cost of $2.00. This
is about a 25-page booklet with technical vet specifics, and an excellent
reference list of other readings.

Another excellent source of more basic ferret care (including shots, major
diseases, nutrition, housing, etc.) is the Ferret Owner's Handbook, put out
by the Ferret Lovers' Club of Texas, P.O. Box 286, Bedford, TX 76095-0286
or contact them at [log in to unmask] and post a message. This handbook
is a 50-page spiral bound guide and costs $10 (including shipping) [or $8
for FLC-TX members]).

Finally, the ferret FAQ that can be requested from this list is an excellent
source of information.
