Adrenal gland disease is very common in ferrets 3 years and older. It
can also happen in younger ferrets too. The reason it is so common is
related to spay/neutering at a young age (4-6 weeks old) and "long day
photoperiods" that pet ferrets are exposed to here in the US.

If surgery is not an option due to cost then check with other ferret
vets in your area to compare prices If surgery is still not an option,
then treat Tuffy with Lupron and/or melatonin to help control his adrenal
gland disease. No need to give up on him at this time.

Hope that helps,
Jerry Murray, DVM
