My vet said that Advantage for cats is the only safe flea control to use on
ferrets and to use a smaller amount than the directions say on the package.
I believe it was half, but I don't remember exactly. I would check with a
ferret knowledgeable vet before putting anything like that on ferrets.
Some vets will just say something like, "Ah, yeah! That doesn't sound like
it would hurt anything," even if they did not know what they are talking
about, so be careful. It makes a difference. I don't know why it matters,
but I trust my vet. She seems to know what she's talking about and she
obviously cares about ferrets.

I did not get the impression that the person who wrote about teenagers and
ferrets was saying that teens would not be loving pet owners. I think the
writer was saying to have a plan when you choose to get a pet (such as
parents willing to "baby-sit") so that you are not stuck with a difficult
decision when it is time to go to college. My heart goes out to the young
woman who discovered that her dorm will not accept any pets. I encourage
her, and anyone else in that position, not to give up. You will find
someone to love your babies while you are away. Please, PLEASE do not give
up the opportunity to go to college because of this obstacle! I chose not
to go to school when I had the chance, for reasons I thought were very real
and honorable. Although in many ways my life has been wonderful, it has
been much more difficult than it needed to be. Poverty is no fun, and I've
had enough tastes of it to know. I finally put myself through school, but
I have student loan payments that will last well into my retirement, I
still live from pay check to pay check, and I have no idea how I will send
my own teenage son to college. Please don't put yourself through this. It
is not worth it. Just don't give up! Hopefully, your parents can care for
your babies. If not, somewhere near you is someone who would love to have
an extra fur ball or two for however long it takes until you can care for
them again! Best wishes!!!
