food dish digging!

Okay, this sounds weird but it seems that a whole litter of my breeder
friend's ferrets have entirely outsmarted us and continue to dig in their
food dishes regardless of what we do!  We've tried raising the dishes,
putting corner litter pans under the dishes, carpet under the dishes, but
nothing works!  Does anyone have any ideas of how to stop this?  I'd love to
be able to outsmart them on this one!
