Hi, Ashley. This is NOT good. You didn't say where you live. I think
you need to seriously look at the toxin idea, though. Toxins have a
neurological effect that causes dilation of the pupils. The Lysol is
not a good cleaner to use around the ferret. (I know abot this one
because I am unable to breathe when exposed to Lysol). Is it possible
that someone used a chemical bug spray in the room? Is there new carpet
in there? Was it treated with something before you moved in? Have you
changed anything? What litter ARE you using? Is it possible there is
lead-based paint somewhere? I don't think that shows up in routine
tests, and that you have to test specifically for lead.

Carefully examine the new home. I moved into a house once and the DAY I
moved in got a bad headache. A few months later I was out running and
not one block from home collapsed, unable to breathe. At the time I
worked for a group of otorhinolaryngologists (Ear, Nose and Throat;
Head and neck surgery, allergy specialists). After being tested for
every possible allergy, I was told that it MIGHT be a chemical allergy
and they may not be able to EVER pin in down.

I had pneumonia for two years and finally gave notice at work, telling
the doctors that I was afraid I would not be able to survive another
winter. With a 9 year old, I couldn't afford to die! I had agreed to
stay with them until they found a replacement, as long as they did so
by August, so that I could get my daughter settled in a new home and
school before the school year began. So, I moved out of the house at
the end of June and moved in with a friend. And, you guessed it - I got
well. In the next year my lung capacity climbed from 48% to more than
90%. I was able to start running again and also became a scuba diver.
To do that you have to have a normal respiratory system.and I am now
normal.

What do I blame? The house. You will never know what someone who came
before you has done. Or, what problems have been painted over or lie
hidden. Either way, if the problem is in the house, I think you can
have them let you out of your lease or make things right.

One final, not so pleasant warning - if your ferret dies, get out. Like
the canaries in the mines, the effect on a smaller body just takes a
little longer on a bigger one. This could be fatal to your baby if you
don't find it. Good luck!

It's amazing how much can be accomplished if nobody cares who gets the
